The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has released its 2009 Position Statement on Developmentally Appropriate Practice for teachers and others in the field of early childhood education. The Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration has published an announcement for FY 2009 State MCH Early Childhood Comprehensive System Implementation Grants. The purpose of the State Early Childhood Comprehensive Systems (SECCS) program is to ensure school readiness by creating a seamless system of early childhood services for all children. The Herr Research Center for Children and Social Policy at the Erikson Institute has published a report entitled Creating a Workforce in Early Childhood Mental Health: Defining the Competent Specialist, by Jon Korfmacher and Aimee Hilado. The report summarizes a comparison of efforts to define standards and professional competencies for early childhood mental health specialists developed by groups of professionals in California, Connecticut, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, and Vermont. ZERO TO THREE has developed a searchable database containing information on state policies and initiatives that impact infants, toddlers and their families. Baby Matters: A Gateway to State Policies and Initiatives is searchable by state, keyword, and category. The Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) has created Parent Training Modules which provide information for families on promoting children's social and emotional skills, understanding their problem behaviors, and using positive approaches to help them learn appropriate behaviors.
