Introduction
This annotated bibliographic database contains articles, reports and books written
about the research and supports needed to ensure that young children, ages birth through 6 years,
with disabilities and their families are fully included in programs and in their
communities. This bibliography was developed in response to the need to bridge the
gap between research to practice by making research based practices easily
available to practitioners and policy makers.
The entries for preschool inclusion are developed from literature searches using search terms such
as Inclusion, Inclusive schools, Preschool, Early Childhood Education,
Mainstreaming-education and Early-Childhood Preschool. Staff then selected the
content for the bibliography using their knowledge of current research, policy
and practice. Most references were published between 1991 and 2005.
The entries for natural environments are a compilation of existing bibliographies and
"top ten reads" from national experts who presented their work on the Enhancing Services in
Natural Environments conference call series in the spring of 2004. Additional entries are regularly added
to include more recently published information. The most recent update occured on March 10, 2006.
Abstracts are from ERIC, if not copyrighted, or were written by NECTAC staff.
